Tom Baker to return as the Fourth Doctor

Share

From the BBC Doctor Who page

Tom Baker is returning as the Fourth Doctor in a series of audio adventures known collectively as Doctor Who: Hornets' Nest. His co-stars include Rula Lenska, Stephen Thorne and Michael Maloney. Richard Franklin is also onboard, reprising his role of Mike Yates who viewers last saw in 1974's Planet of the Spiders, the first story to feature Tom Baker as the Doctor.

Tom travelled in the TARDIS for 7 years before handing over to Peter Davison in Logopolis and although he has made brief appearances in The Five Doctors, flashbacks and a charity special, these are the first 'full' dramas which feature the Fourth Doctor since 1981.

Paul Magrs, who wrote all five of The Hornets' Nest adventures, commented, 'It feels fantastic to write for him. I would say he's a brilliant mixture of everything the Fourth Doctor ever was. He's dark and sombre at times; other times he's gleefully macabre and mischievous.'

The individual stories which make up the quintet are entitled The Stuff of Nightmares, The Dead Shoes, The Circus of Doom, A Sting in the Tale and Hive of Horror and they will be available on CD and as download from September 2009.

We'll be bringing you more details and some clips soon, but in the meantime we have a gallery which includes shots taken at the cast recording.

I dare you not to grin, when he says "well I don't hear anyone knocking, Do you?

Now I had watched the trailer 4-5 times, all with a HUGE feck off grin on my face, feeling oh so slightly great about my self, when i discovered something else

The trailer for The end of time.

The very LAST David Tennant Doctor Who story. It was shown last week at Comic-Con.

It has a squeeeeee factor of 100, please be seated when watching.

Love that collective audience squeeee at the end... I know how they felt.

Is it ever to late for this kinda thing?

WTWTA : Author Approved

Further news since this post.

Apparently Maurice Sendak is very enthusiastic about Spike Jonze adaptation of his book.
A new featurette shows some new footage along with Sendak drawing parallels between himself an Jonze.

Hopefully this bodes well.

I think it would be upsetting for me if this film doesn't meet my expectations

Alice In Wonderland

Share
Trailer for the new Tim Burton film, Alice In Wonderland has reached the internet.
Film features Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham-Carter's barmy looking Red Queen, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice herself.

Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton film?

Who would have thought of it?

Wonder shall he be playing a sort of weird gothic character?

See for yourselves

Seriously... chill out

I live with a guy who is HUGELY in to his World of Warcraft (henceforth i shall refer to it as WoW), in fact up until a year ago this Apt was full of WoW players.

Now my house mate may spend a month doing quests and collecting "gold" just so he can be one of the very few people in the game that owns a "motorbike"

But apart from this one detail, I know little of his adventures WoW.

Which is a small mercy, because I wouldn't be living here if he took the game as seriously as this kid.

This is ALL real apparently, its best watched in order.

While watching the rest of videos on his brothers youtube channel I can only surmise that th his kid is in need of some big time therapy, he is just a spoilt rich kid with no concept of reality.

Photoshopping

I have to admit, i do love messing around with photoshop, I make little "bits" here an there, forum avatars, signatures, the odd poster an such.

Today while I watched some people on line try to take pot shots at each other by putting their heads on movie posters, I thought, I can do SOOOOOOOOOOO much better than that....

So I did, but not wanting to be petty and bring some one else down, I went with the tried an tested way of Self Deprecation.

This is what I came up with:

Probably the only person I know who will prove a point by taking the piss out of himself.

I must be crazy.

Blown away

Share
I very rarely just post a video JUST for the music it contains, but I felt i had to share this song with people.

I first heard this song about 7 or 8 yrs ago, sat in the back seat of a car going up to dublin to see some random band, who at the moment I cant recall.

I was given a copy of the album on tape, which I think I listened to ONCE an then lost.

And so the album and this incredible song remained lost to me, until last week, when the internet offered it up to me via a download.

I have since been rocking out to this track repeatedly.

Hope ye enjoy

Beautiful letter

Wonderful Letter From The Mother of A Gay Son To Minister Ahern

Dear Mr Ahern,

My name is Helen Doody, you have already received and failed to reply to a letter that my own son Declan sent to you a week or so ago. So like any good and decent parent I am now trying to get you to listen to and protect my child – it is the very least that any mother would do for her own children.

I read Declan’s email and everything he said to you in the e-mail was true. He had a very tough time growing up in Abbeyfeale, I can still picture him crying in the mornings before he went to school because he was afraid of the people who were going to be waiting for him – bullies who would beat the living daylight out of him, people who crushed the very spirit within him. I tried numerous times to help him, I spoke to teachers, to the parents but the problem got a quick-fix but a weeks later it just continued on.

Declan was always a very shy and quiet boy but as the bullying continued he became more and more invisible. His Dad and I spent nights talking about him, wondering would he go to school in the morning, would he come home that evening with a ripped jumper or would his school copies be destroyed, we tried so hard to get him the help he needed but as the bullying continued, he started to shut his family out.

All of this began to change however the day Declan came out to me. I am not going to pretend that I handled it like a saint, it is a shock to the system, you don’t think about your child being gay, you just assume they are straight and when Declan told me I didn’t know what to do. I thought I had done something wrong, I thought it was my fault, I really thought that this was it for my son, when people started to find out that he was gay his entire world would turn into a living hell but it didn’t.

Over the coming weeks he began to change, I finally started to see him smile again and there was something different about his heart too. I saw my son reach a very dark and lonely place at the age of 16 but even at his lowest my son, had the courage and strength to come out and say he was gay.

He went to college with a new look on life, he finally seemed to be enjoying himself and it was only then I realised that there was nothing wrong with Declan. If my son was happy, if he was no longer worried about what other people thought about him then I knew that there was nothing wrong with being gay.

For many years he had kept a secret from me and his family because he thought we would reject him, like so many people had done to him before and now at the age of 23 he has graduated with a degree, a higher diploma and a masters. He has become the fine young man that his father and I are so very proud to be able to call our son.

When I heard on the news that gay people would now finally be able to register the relationships like any married couple I finally thought things had changed and I suppose many other people around the country like me thought the same. However I have now realised that what you plan on doing is nothing short of telling the gay community that they are still not equal. You will not tell my sons that they are not equal to their brothers, friends and the rest of society. Your Civil Partnership Bill is not good enough for my family, and hundreds, thousands of other families in this country. I might not be the smartest person in this country but even I can tell you that this bill is all but worthless and will only further the opinion that gay people are not the same as everyone else.

I have been there for all my sons when they have had their hearts broken by girlfriends and boyfriends. I helped them pick out gifts on Valentines day and shopped around for a Tux for the Debs. I have met boyfriends and girlfriends, I have liked some and been frosty to others. I have thought about each and every single of them getting married to someone that they love and who will love them back as much as I do.

I have six sons Mr Ahern, six very beautiful boys who became six very beautiful and upstanding young men!

Two of my boys are gay. Four are straight. Two are firemen. Two love playing video games. One loves to cook. Three of them love cars. Five of them have had their tonsils out.

All of them are my sons.

You have the power to change this country so do the right thing and change this country for the better, wake up and realise that there is still time to clean up this mess and give gay couples the same rights as straight couples.

I am asking on behalf of my gay children, their gay friends, my gay friends, my family, I am asking you as a member of this country, as a taxpayer but most of all I am asking you as a mother, to help my children and revise this Bill so everyone in this country can be equal.

Yours truly,

Helen Doody

Fantastic letter, made me get a wee bit emotional I have to admit.

Cartoons.... now with added reality

Share
Bugs: It's true, Doc; I'm a rabbit alright. Would you like to shoot me now or wait 'til you get home?
Daffy: Shoot him now! Shoot him now!
Bugs: You keep outta this! He doesn't have to shoot you now!
Daffy: He does so have to shoot me now! [to Elmer] I demand that you shoot me now!

Pop artist James Cauty's work Splatter repurposes classic Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera cartoons and gives them a Sin City-style blood spatter makeover, "presenting the viewer with unrelenting acts of bloody, cartoon violence, which, in cartoon law, ultimately cannot cause fatal injury."

The idea came from the Cauty's 15-year-old son who suggested his dad show the violence that cartoons leave out. "People have been saying since the ‘60s that cartoons should show the consequences of violence, or kids will get the wrong idea," Cauty told the Telegraph.

"Its very difficult to shock kids these days - you have cartoon characters being shot in the head and walking off cliffs, so we have decided to replace them with something more realistic."

This is the full "edit", which althought it has avoided the sounded being removed by WMG its doesnt have as much impact as the 1st video
